Quick reference

Project snapshot

This older snapshot is retained for historical context, not as a recommendation to run it unchanged on a modern network. These facts identify what the archive documents and what a reader should not assume from it.

Background

Why this version is preserved

Network Analyzer began as a final-year BCA project. This 2024 snapshot documents an earlier Bash-led wireless analysis toolkit. Its recorded design uses an interactive shell controller, a local Python-served interface, and common Linux wireless-analysis utilities. The archive is retained as a historical record so the development path can be understood instead of presenting the old and current versions as if they were the same product.

This page documents how the older version was put together and how it differs from the later tool. It is a historical snapshot, not a claim that the two versions are one continuous release or that the old dependencies still work unchanged.

Architecture

A Bash controller around external system tools

The documented code path centres on mybash.sh, which checks privileges and the local environment, detects a wireless interface, and dispatches menu choices. The project also includes server.py for a local web interface. Operations rely on host packages and adapter/driver support, so the result depends on the Linux environment as much as on the repository code.

How to review

Use a static code review before running anything

  1. Read the repository README and license before copying or redistributing code.
  2. Inspect the shell script and Python entry points to understand commands, privilege requirements, network activity, file writes, and external dependencies.
  3. Run syntax checks in an isolated Linux environment: bash -n mybash.sh and python3 -m py_compile server.py.
  4. Review dependency installation steps and do not run an unfamiliar installer as root without understanding it.
  5. If practical testing is necessary, use equipment and wireless networks you own or have explicit written authorization to assess.

Do not use this historical guide as a ready-made recipe for interfering with networks or capturing traffic from other people. The safe use case is code study and authorized lab analysis.

Limitations

What this archive does not claim

This page does not claim modern compatibility, exhaustive security testing, or a maintained feature set for the 2024 code. Wireless behaviour depends on supported adapters, drivers, kernel versions, system tools, and local configuration. Syntax checks are not proof of safe live behaviour.

For current development, review the Network Analyzer v2026 case study and its latest repository documentation.

2024 archive and 2026 iteration

This page documents the 2024 Bash-based version for historical reference. The later iteration has a separate page describing its Python dispatcher, analysis modules, local persistence, and reporting workflow.
